The plunge in framing lumber prices was unabated, but another round of steep discounting drew in more inquiries and orders compared with recent weeks. Traders sensed that customers were more comfortable with lower prices, while the need for some buyers to replenish was evident after weeks on the sidelines. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell for a ninth consecutive week.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel markets generated more energy as buyers stepped in with more confidence to cover near-term needs. OSB rebounded in most producing regions, and reversed the summer slide that saw prices of sheathing plunge $200 or more since early June. In Southern Pine plywood, remaining softness in prices of rated sheathing dissipated by Wednesday, and buyers stepped back into the market. After two months of measured trading and price cuts in western Fir plywood, inquiries and sales picked up at midweek.
