Several weeks of high temperatures in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have led to a number of forest fires throughout the country, said the Ministry of Security on Tuesday. Fires were most intense near the towns of Kakanj, Olovo and Zavidovici, all north of Sarajevo.

About 20 hectares of pine forest has been burning out of control near Kakanj, though no buildings were damaged for the time being, while some 100 hectares of forest has been engulfed by fire near Olovo.

The Bosnian Ministry of Defense has deployed helicopters to help firefighters in remote areas, as strong winds were also hampering efforts to extinguish the fire.
