German furniture industry continues to expand

The German furniture industry carried forward the successful export from 2011 and gained further foreign market shares. According to VHK, this is due to crowding out international competitors. The market itself is rated as rather unstable. In Germany the furniture market continues to grow. In 2011 each person bought furniture for 373 EUR in average, which represents an increase of 2%. ... West Fraser Timber remains North America's largest lumber producer

The latest WOOD MARKETS annual survey of the "top 20" Canadian and U.S. lumber producers shows that West Fraser Timber has retained its title of being North America's largest softwood lumber producer in 2011 with 4.91 billion board feet. "With North American lumber production in 2011 increasing a modest 5.2% over 2010, the WOOD MARKETS survey provides further evidence that the fledgling lumber market recovery that started in 2010 has continued to build on itself in 2011 - albeit slowly," commented Peter Butzelaar, WOOD MARKETS Vice-President.... Germany: More oak exports to Sweden – China weak

Germany has exported significantly more oak round timber to Sweden than in 2010. With over 14,000 cbm the increase was of 46%. The export to Denmark fell significantly. There were 4,600 cbm less exported. A minus of 30%. The export volume to France was almost the same as the one to Denmark. The main export country remains China with around 30.000 cbm³. Difficult wood market Germany 2012

The prices for spruce round timber are continuously increasing since 2009, despite storms as Paula, Emma and Xynthia. The market didn´t consolidate as hoped. Each sawmill that closes is opened under another name or elsewhere and continues to produce. Moreover, the cutting capacity is strongly increased in Sweden. Plus 3 million cbm in the last two years. Sweden offers a better price than most middle European sawmills can. This makes it difficult for middle Europeans to increase their prices to a sufficient level.... [meer...]
