Latvia: record high forest and woodworking industry products export value in 2016

In 2016, the total Latvian forest and woodworking industry products export value reached the record high 2.102 billion euros. That is 4.6% more that in the previous year, say the figures published by the Latvian Ministry of Agriculture. 

Thus, the total export value of the Latvian wood and wooden items (excluding matches) came up to 1.794 billion euros, that is 5% more than back in 2015 when these figures reached 1.709 billion euros.

The bulk of the Latvian forest and woodworking industry products exports was shipped to the UK, Estonia, and Germany. Export share to the UK came up to 19.7% of the total export value or 414.977 million euros (2015: 19.3% —388.049 million euros). Share of exports to Estonia equalled 9.9% or 207.981 million euros (2015: 9.5% — 190.380 million euros), and the export share to Germany — 9.8% or 205.015 million euros (2015: 10.1% — 202.284 million euros).

The value of the forest and wood industry goods imported by Latvia grew by 9.2% up to 741.463 million euros. The key supplier of the above mentioned goods to Latvia was Estonia. Its share in the Latvian total forest and woodworking industry goods imports came up to 17.6% or 130.653 million euros.
