The Swiss manufacturer of wood pellets pellets AEK AG, a subsidiary of the energy provider AEK Energie, started the construction of a pellet drying plant at its pellet production site in Balsthal, Switzerland.

The new drying plant Holz Energie Klus (HEK) produces the heat necessary for pellet drying using recycled wood. Until recently the pellets have been dried with the help of natural gas. The total investment is 9 million Swiss francs. According to AEK's representatives, it is not easy to come by a dry raw material for pellet production. Therefore pellets plants have to use damp raw materials.

The plant with a capacity of 5.6 megawatts (MW) uses recycled wood originating from Germany.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held on April 20, 2015.
